Banana and Sticky rice (Nom ansaom Chek)


Banana and Sticky rice is the Khmer desert. It make from banana, sticky rice, black eye peas and coconut milk. The Khmer people always make it in traditional. It’s sweet and yummy.

  1. 1 package of frozen banana leafs
  2. 1 kilo of sticky rice
  3. 1 bunch of Namwa banana
  4. 1 large can of coconut milk
  5. 1 can of black eye peas (Beans)
  6. 16 oz or 1 pkg of shredded coconut
  7. ½ tsp of salt
  8. ½ cup of sugar
  1. Rinse rice with cold water for 3-4 times then soaking the rice over night. Rinse rice with cold water for 2-3 times (Soaking it helps the rice soak up the flavor from the beans and the coconut milk) and keep it dry.
  2. Boiling the beans for 2minutes.
  3. Cut the top and bottom of the banana leaves. Wipe the leave on both side.
  4. On high heat, add in coconut milk, shredded coconut, beans, salt and sugar simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. After 5 minutes add in rice and fry for 10 minutes.
  6. After 10 minutes it should be a sticky consistency. Let it cool before wrapping.
  7. Cut the banana in half and toss with 1 tsp of salt to tenderize it.
  8. Add 2-3 spoonfuls of rice on banana leaf and flatten, place the banana in the middle and roll.
  9. After you done, steam them for 40 minutes. Ready to serve.
